Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Joy Center of Fountain Hill based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
WHAT WE BELIEVE*
We believe the Bible is the accurate Word of God and is that it is applicable to our everyday lives.
We believe there is one true God, eternally self-existent and the creator of everything.
He is properly understood as one Being of three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that humankind voluntarily fell out of relationship with God through sin.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and only His shed blood can redeem individuals from sin and death. That redemption comes only through repentance of our sin, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submitting to His will for our lives.
We believe that all believers are entitled to the baptism in the Holy Spirit, an experience distinct from and subsequent to the new birth and promised by the Father, and accompanied by speaking in tongues.
We believe that sanctification is a life of separation from sin, realized by identifying with Christ’s death and resurrection.
We believe in the power and significance of the church is to be divinely led and is called to meet regularly together for fellowship, prayer and “the breaking of bread.”
We believe that the church is individually equipped by the Holy Spirit to achieve His purpose and fulfill its calling which is to worship God, share the good news, and serve our community.
We believe in Divine healing and that God wants to heal and transform us so that we might become His joyful and useful representatives serving our community.
We believe the resurrection of the righteous dead and the rapture of living believers is the Blessed Hope of the Church.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.
We believe a final judgment awaits the wicked, both the dead and the living.
We believe a new heaven and a new earth are promised in the Bible for the redeemed in Christ.
The Joy Center of Fountain Hill adheres to a biblical/traditional view of marriage and sexuality.
*Our beliefs are based on the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. We are a General Council member of the Assemblies of God Fellowship of churches. This means we are part of the cooperative fellowship of the Assemblies of God; which in truth is often mistaken for a denomination.
That is why the term “cooperative fellowship” is so important.
This term focuses attention and priority on the local assembly rather than on the national organization. The interests and well-being of the local church are valued above a religious organization. This was intended to prevent the local church’s loss of self-determination under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, the term recognizes the need for cooperation in fulfilling common purposes, which includes the submission to doctrinal unity and moral purity.
With this in mind, we gladly acknowledge and subscribe to The 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. Of the 16 articles, four are considered core beliefs "due to the key role they play in reaching the lost and building the believer and the church". They are the doctrines concerning salvation, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, divine healing, and the Second Coming of Christ.
